About

One simple idea, done properly.

Most trips are about seeing places. This one is about doing something real: catching fish and sharing a meal with the people you came with, in a fjord far north of the Arctic Circle.

The house, the boat, the sauna and the kitchen are all part of the experience.

Catch. Cook. Eat.

The Journey

Day by day.

This is what a typical stay of five days and four nights can look like. No two are the same: how many days you stay, and what you do on each of them, is shaped around your group, the weather and the rest of your trip.

Day 01

Arrival and a first dinner

We'll meet you at the airport and bring you north to the island. At the house, we'll welcome you with a home-cooked dinner made from local ingredients. Settle in, share a glass of wine, and get to know the place and the people who call it home.

Day 02

The catch

Out on the fjord in the morning with us. We've fished these waters all our lives. Cod, haddock or halibut, depending on the day. You'll learn to read the water and work the line, and with a bit of luck bring in your own fish.

Day 02

Cooking and dinner

Back on land, we show you how to clean and fillet the day's fish, and you cook it together that evening, the way people here always have. Dinner is at the long table in the Sea Lodge, with good wine and fish as fresh as it gets.

Day 03

A slower day

A morning in Heitlaugen, a wood-fired sauna by the sea on Grytøya, with dips in the cold water. An afternoon walk to a quiet beach. And between September and March, if the sky clears, the northern lights, with something warm to drink.

Day 04

Sea eagles and long evenings

Out in the boat to look for the white-tailed eagles, which often follow us and take fish from the surface a few metres away. From late May to late July the sun doesn't set, so a summer evening on the water can run well past midnight. If you'd like to go further, a whale safari from Andenes is a long day trip from here, which we can arrange at extra cost.

Day 05

A last morning, and Harstad on the way home

A last breakfast at the house before we drive you back to Evenes. The road goes through the tunnel to Grytøya and over on the ferry to Stornes, so if your flight allows, there's time to stop in Harstad on the way: a walk along the harbour, lunch in town, or anything you forgot to buy.
